Terms of Service

For the purposes of these Terms, the terms below have the following meaning whenever capitalized:

Renderly

the platform, the website, and the document generation API, as well as the legal entity that operates the service.

Service

the set of features made available by Renderly, including the template editor, the render API (HTML → PDF), the dashboard, and document integrity verification.

User / You

the individual who creates and uses an account, acting on their own behalf or on behalf of an Organization.

Organization

the entity (tenant) to which one or more accounts belong; it owns the Templates and billing data, isolated from other Organizations.

Account

the set of credentials (name, email, and password) that identifies a User within an Organization.

Template

the content (HTML, structure, and variables) that the User creates and stores in the Service to generate documents.

Payload

the data (the "data") sent in each render call to populate a Template.

Document

the PDF file generated from a Template and a Payload.

API Key

the secret credential used to authenticate API calls.

Customer Content

collectively, the Templates, Payloads, and Documents associated with an Organization.

2.1. By creating an Account, accessing, or using the Service — in any manner, including through API calls — you represent that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms, the Privacy Policy, and the Cookie Policy, which are an integral part of this instrument.

2.2. If you use the Service on behalf of an Organization, you represent that you have authority to bind it to these Terms. In that case, "You" also includes the Organization.

2.3. You must be at least 18 years old or of the age of majority applicable in your jurisdiction, and have the legal capacity to enter into contracts. If you do not agree to any part of these Terms, do not use the Service.

3.1. Renderly is an API and platform that turns HTML into print-ready PDF documents, with support for reusable Templates, variables, and integrity verification. The Service can be used synchronously (PDF in the response to the request) or asynchronously.

3.2. The Service processes the Payload and generates the Document in memory. By default, neither the Payload nor the generated Document is persisted (zero-retention policy): after delivery, they are discarded. Renderly retains only render metadata (size, duration, status, and date) and a SHA-256 hash of the Document, for billing, support, and integrity verification purposes. 3.3. The Service is in Beta. Features may be added, changed, or removed, and behavior may change without prior notice, to the extent reasonable.

4.1. To use the Service, you create an Account by providing a name, email, and password. The password is stored exclusively as a hash (Argon2id) — Renderly does not have access to your password in plain text. API Keys are stored only as a hash; the plain-text key is shown only once, at the moment of creation.

4.2. You are solely responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials (password and API Keys) and for all activity carried out with them. Treat API Keys as secrets: do not expose them in public code, repositories, or on the client side.

4.3. You must notify Renderly immediately, through the contact in Section 14, upon becoming aware of any unauthorized use of your Account or any compromise of credentials. You may revoke API Keys at any time through the dashboard.

4.4. Each Account belongs to an Organization, which is a tenant that is logically isolated from the others. You are responsible for managing access to your Organization and for the acts of the Users associated with it.

4.5. You are responsible for the legality, accuracy, and appropriateness of the Customer Content, including the legal basis for processing any personal data contained in the Payloads and Templates, and for obtaining the necessary consents and authorizations from the data subjects.

5.1. You agree to use the Service lawfully and in accordance with these Terms. The following conduct, among others, is prohibited:

• generating, storing, or distributing illegal, fraudulent, or defamatory content, content that infringes third-party rights, or that constitutes document forgery;
• using the Service to create documents that pass themselves off as issued by third parties without authorization, or to defraud, deceive, or harm people;
• attempting to circumvent quota limits, authentication, isolation between Organizations, or any technical controls of the Service;
• reverse engineering, decompiling, probing, or attempting to access parts of the Service or of other Organizations to which you are not entitled;
• overloading the infrastructure abusively (for example, abnormal request volume, denial-of-service attacks, or unauthorized scraping);
• transmitting malware, malicious code, or content that compromises the security or integrity of the Service;
• reselling, sublicensing, or making the Service available to third parties as if it were your own, outside the terms of your plan.

5.2. Renderly may immediately and without prior notice suspend or limit access that violates this Section, especially where there is a risk to the security or stability of the Service or to third-party rights.

6.1. The Service offers a free plan (with limits and a watermark) and paid plans, as described on the pricing page. Each plan defines a usage quota (for example, the number of PDFs per month) and associated features.

6.2. Payments are processed through Stripe, our payment processor. By subscribing to a paid plan, you authorize the recurring charge of the corresponding amount, on the stated cycle, until cancellation. Renderly does not store your full card details.

6.3. Amounts in foreign currency (where applicable) may be subject to exchange rate variation, IOF, and card issuer fees, which are the User’s responsibility. Any applicable taxes will be added when required by law.

6.4. Once the plan quota is reached, Renderly may refuse new calls, apply rate limiting (rate limiting) or, with your consent, charge for overages — in accordance with the plan rules in effect. Render metadata (Section 3.2) is the basis for measuring consumption.

6.5. Unless otherwise provided by law or expressly stated, amounts paid are non-refundable in the event of cancellation in the middle of a cycle. You may cancel at any time, effective at the end of the cycle already paid for.

6.6. Renderly may change prices, plans, and quotas. Changes affecting paid plans will be communicated with reasonable advance notice and will take effect in the cycle following the communication.

7.1. Customer Content. You (or your Organization) are and remain the owner of all rights to the Customer Content — including the Templates, Payloads, and generated Documents. Renderly claims no ownership over any of it.

7.2. License granted to Renderly. You grant Renderly a limited, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, process, transmit, and display the Customer Content solely to the extent necessary to operate and provide the Service to you (for example, storing Templates and processing Payloads to generate Documents). This license terminates when the Customer Content is deleted or the relationship ends, except for the metadata and hashes retained under Section 3.2.

7.3. We do not use your data for other purposes. Renderly does not sell the Customer Content and does not use it to train artificial intelligence or machine learning models.

7.4. Renderly’s property. The Service, the "Renderly" brand, the software, the documentation, the interface, and other elements made available are owned by Renderly or its licensors and are protected by intellectual property laws. These Terms do not transfer to you any rights over the Service beyond the right of use granted herein.

7.5. Suggestions. If you send suggestions, ideas, or feedback about the Service, Renderly may use them freely, without obligation or compensation, to improve the product.

8.1. During the Beta phase, the Service is provided “as-is” and “as available”, without warranty of availability, performance, response time, or freedom from errors. There is no SLA (service level agreement) with guaranteed uptime in this phase.

8.2. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Renderly disclaims implied warranties, including those of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. You are responsible for maintaining contingency mechanisms (for example, alternative document generation) appropriate to the criticality of your use.

8.3. Renderly may perform scheduled or emergency maintenance, updates, and interruptions, striving to minimize impact. Formal uptime commitments, a status page, and an SLA may be offered in future plans — when and if they exist, they will be expressly announced; until then, there is no promise to that effect.

9.1. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Renderly, its partners, and contributors shall not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, punitive, or consequential damages, nor for lost profits, loss of revenue, loss of data, business interruption, or reputational harm, even if advised of the possibility.

9.2. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Renderly’s total and aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the Service and these Terms is limited to the greater of: (a) the total actually paid by you to Renderly in the 12 (twelve) months prior to the triggering event; or (b) R$ 100.00 (one hundred reais).

9.3. Because Renderly does not persist Payloads or Documents (Section 3.2), it cannot recover that content after the render. Responsibility for safekeeping the generated Documents is solely yours.

9.4. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions or limitations; in those cases, the limitations above apply to the fullest extent permitted. Nothing in these Terms limits liabilities that cannot be limited by law (for example, willful misconduct).

10.1. You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Renderly, its partners, and contributors from any claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from: (a) your use of the Service; (b) the Customer Content, including any allegation that it infringes third-party rights or applicable law; (c) your breach of these Terms; or (d) the processing of personal data that you carry out through the Service without a proper legal basis.

10.2. Renderly may, at its discretion, assume the exclusive defense of any matter subject to indemnification, in which case you will cooperate reasonably.

11.1. You may close your Account at any time by ceasing to use the Service and requesting closure through the dashboard or the contact in Section 14. Cancellation of a paid plan follows Section 6.5.

11.2. Renderly may suspend or terminate your access, in whole or in part, in the event of a breach of these Terms, a security risk, a legal requirement, non-payment, or discontinuation of the Service. Whenever reasonable and legally possible, we will give prior notice.

11.3. Once the relationship ends, the right of use ceases immediately. Stored Customer Content (such as Templates) may be deleted after termination, subject to any applicable legal retention periods; remember that Payloads and Documents are not retained (Section 3.2). The clauses that, by their nature, are meant to remain in force survive termination (among them, Sections 7, 9, 10, 12, and 13).

12.1. The processing of personal data by Renderly is governed by the Privacy Policy and the Cookie Policy, subject, as applicable, to the General Data Protection Law (Law No. 13,709/2018 — LGPD), the GDPR, and the CCPA/CPRA.

12.2. To operate the Service, Renderly uses sub-processors, including: Neon (managed PostgreSQL, US-East/AWS region), Stripe (payments), and the hosting provider (application infrastructure). Transactional email delivery may be added in the future. Relevant changes to the list of sub-processors are communicated in advance.

12.3. Renderly applies security measures such as TLS in transit, AES-256 encryption at rest (by the provider), API Key hashing, and multi-tenant isolation. We do not claim certifications that we do not yet hold (for example, SOC 2). See the current status and the roadmap at /security.

13.1. These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Federative Republic of Brazil.

13.2. The venue of the User’s domicile is elected, when the User is a consumer, to resolve disputes arising from these Terms; in all other cases, the venue of the district where Renderly is headquartered, with waiver of any other, however privileged it may be, subject to matters of public order.

14.1. Renderly may change these Terms at any time. Material changes will be communicated through reasonable means (for example, email or a notice in the dashboard) and will take effect as of the new effective date indicated at the top. Continued use after the changes take effect implies agreement. The current version is always available on this page.

14.2. If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid, the remainder will remain in full force. Failure to enforce a right does not imply its waiver.
